The Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP) is Sweden's largest national research program focused on AI, autonomous systems, and software. Launched in 2015 and funded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation, WASP aims to establish Sweden as a global leader in these fields. The program involves five partner universities (Chalmers, Linköping, Lund, KTH, Umeå) and collaborates with others, fostering research through PhD student projects, faculty recruitment, and postdocs across various AI tracks, including Machine Learning and Explainable AI (MLX), and mathematical foundations of AI. WASP also emphasizes industrial collaboration, engaging with approximately 80 companies and organizations, and aims to produce 600 PhD students and establish 80 research groups.
