Led by Dr. Rafiq Ahmad, the lab develops sustainable and smart systems and technologies to drive the digital transformation of industries and society. Its core research areas include Smart Manufacturing, Industrial Robotics, Green Technologies, and Sustainable Production. The lab was established in 2016 at the University of Alberta, Canada, and is committed to bridging fundamental research with advanced industrial applications, aiming for intelligent and resilient manufacturing processes. SMART Lab's work in sustainable production includes the AllFactory initiative, which focuses on autonomous, sustainable food production through vertical farming and aquaponics.
