NBIS (National Bioinformatics Infrastructure Sweden) is a national research infrastructure providing comprehensive bioinformatics and data science support to the Swedish life science research community. Established in 2008, NBIS offers advanced bioinformatics analysis, bioimage informatics, data management, imaging AI support, systems and tools development, and access to national compute resources. It operates as the Swedish node in ELIXIR, the European infrastructure for biological information, and is distributed across six sites in Sweden. NBIS supports researchers through hands-on assistance, advanced training courses, and a mentor program for PhD students. The organization collaborates closely with major Swedish universities, SciLifeLab, and international projects funded by the EU, contributing to initiatives like the European 1+ Million Genomes Initiative. NBIS is supported by the Swedish Research Council, the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation, and other key stakeholders, enabling world-class life science research and maximizing the scientific and societal impact of collected data.
