Frontier Development Lab (FDL.AI) is a public-private partnership AI research initiative led by Trillium Technologies in collaboration with NASA, Google Cloud, Nvidia, and other leading research organizations. It focuses on interdisciplinary applied AI research at the PhD and Postdoc level to advance machine learning technologies, data science, and high-performance computing for space exploration, planetary stewardship, and exploration medicine. FDL.AI runs annual intensive research sprints pairing AI experts with domain scientists to tackle high-risk, high-reward challenges in planetary defense, heliophysics, astrobiology, climate adaptation, and more. Supported by substantial compute resources from commercial partners, FDL.AI delivers cutting-edge AI tools, data products, and research outcomes deployed in NASA, DOE, ESA, and other federal initiatives, establishing a high success rate in applied AI research for space and Earth sciences.
