Design Research Lab
Design Research Lab is an interdisciplinary network focused on designing socially and ecologically sustainable tools, spaces, and knowledge to support inclusive participation in digital society. It operates at the intersection of technologies, materials, and social practices, emphasizing democratic digital participation and addressing the needs of minoritized groups beyond consumer majorities. The lab collaborates with institutions like Berlin University of the Arts, German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), Weizenbaum Institute, and Einstein Center Digital Future (ECDF). Its approach includes human-centered design, technology prototyping, and inclusive discourse, fostering transdisciplinary research to make technology development a participatory social practice. Projects span digital sovereignty, gender studies, material interactions, social design, and visual cultures, with initiatives like augmented reality for sign language interpretation and data physicalization for science communication.
