DeeperSense is a European project focused on enhancing the environmental perception capabilities of service robots by integrating AI, machine learning, and deep learning. It uniquely combines visual and non-visual sensors to improve joint environmental perception beyond individual sensor capabilities. The project targets underwater robotics as a challenging domain for demonstrating its approach. DeeperSense implements deep learning solutions for three use cases: Diver Monitoring, Obstacle Recognition, and Seabed Classification, driven by end-user needs. The developed algorithms are optimized for real-time execution on onboard hardware for autonomous robot behavior and will be made publicly available. The consortium comprises experts in robotics, AI, and underwater sensing, aiming to strengthen European science and technology by bridging robotics and AI communities.
