BioPACIFIC MIP is a unique user facility funded by NSF dedicated to accelerating the discovery and development of advanced bio-derived high-performance polymers through scalable, high-throughput, and data-driven synthetic biology and materials synthesis. It provides open access to state-of-the-art instrumentation, expert staff, and advanced computational tools including machine learning for materials-by-design, enabling the creation of novel bio-sourced monomers, sequence-specific materials, and stimuli-responsive biomaterials. The platform supports a national community of researchers by offering no-cost access through a competitive proposal process, fostering collaboration, education, and training in automated synthetic biology, chemical synthesis, and biomaterials characterization. It operates within the California NanoSystems Institute at UCSB and UCLA, integrating interdisciplinary expertise to revolutionize polymer materials beyond traditional petrochemical methods.
