Big Chemistry is a Dutch initiative leveraging over 90 million euros from the National Growth Fund to become a global leader in chemical robotics and artificial intelligence. The project aims to build an autonomous RobotLab capable of conducting a large number of experiments to generate extensive datasets on molecular system properties. This data will be used to train new algorithms for predicting various molecular properties, including solubility, phase separation, critical micelle concentration, smell, toxicity, and reaction rates. The initiative also focuses on transforming formulation processes from an art to a science-based technology, using AI to rapidly discover optimal formulations for products like paints, shampoos, and cosmetics, with a particular emphasis on biobased ingredients.
