AIR Lab, established in September 2019 as a joint venture between CAAS and Thales, is an innovation hub focused on developing the next generation of Air Traffic Management (ATM) technologies. Their core offering is the world's first Air Traffic Management Digital Twin (ATM Twin), a virtual environment that mirrors the entire ATM ecosystem. This platform, built on an Open ATM Architecture, allows for experimentation and co-creation of future ATM solutions. AIR Lab utilizes advanced technologies like AI/ML for decision support and automation, and has focused on Green Aviation initiatives, including Continuous Descent Operations (CDO) to reduce emissions. They employ an agile 'test-and-learn' methodology to rapidly develop Minimum Viable Products, fostering collaboration among air traffic controllers, AI experts, software engineers, and startups.
