Unit/Project Description:

McMaster University is Canada's most research-intensive university and the nation's preeminent nuclear research insitution.

The McMaster campus houses a unique suite of world class nuclear facilities anchored by the McMaster Nuclear Reactor - a mulit-purpose research reactor that provides neutrons for medical isotope production and scientific research.
McMaster University's nuclear research facilities enable discoveries in medicine, clean energy, nuclear safety, materials and environmental science, while providing cancer treatments for more than 70,000 patients every year.

Job Summary:

Responsible for gathering, monitoring, and review of data and records that support QA and Operations at McMaster Nuclear Reactor (MNR). Also responsible for the development, implementation, and review of MNR operations training programs in an environment regulated by the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC).

Purpose and Key Functions:

• Review and complete verification of forms and records for various MNR QA and Operations processes.
• Collect data from various sources on a routine basis and create charts and tables to facilitate analysis and trending.
• Assist in the administration of MNR Management System tools and databases to ensure accurate and timely data is maintained including interaction with MNR staff to resolve deficiencies.
• Perform internal audits of Management System processes as scheduled.
• Write, review, and edit work instructions and procedures on topics related to the Management System and Training programs as required.
• Log events and data in Management System tools and databases as required.
• Research training materials, procedures and documentation, including reactor operation related technical material and sciences and evaluate content for training purposes.
• Coordinate and implement training needs analysis to identify and document knowledge and skill requirements of various reactor operation positions.
• Use training needs analysis to formulate learning objectives.
• Analyze and interpret industry standards and incorporate into training programs.
• Consult with management on training requirements, implementation, and documentation, including hosting meetings and documenting the output of those meetings.
• Design training materials and content in accordance with needs analysis and mandated requirements.
• Initiate and conduct training program reviews periodically and create an annual training schedule.
• Coordinate and implement initial and on-going training plans for operation positions including on the job training, self-study, and classroom training.
• Interview and job shadow operations staff and management to collect and verify technical data pertaining to reactor systems.
• Interact with the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) for training program proposals, submissions, reviews, and audits.
• Collaborate, as a representative of the McMaster Nuclear Reactor, with US Department of Energy (US DOE), Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd (AECL), Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC), and various industry experts to obtain up to date training methods and requirements.
• Develop and present training materials to others.
• Coordinate and plan training activities to be conducted by external service providers (including scheduling with management, arranging training locations, coordinating training with regular operation at MNR).
• Coordination of teams to develop and execute evaluations and examinations for reactor staff.

Supervision:

No formal supervision of others is required.

Requirements:
