Key Responsibilities

System Administration & Maintenance: Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain IBM AIX operating systems (AIX V7 and later) and associated software, including patches and fixes (APARs/TL).
Documentation & Processes: Create and maintain technical documentation, operating procedures, and configuration records.
Consulting & Collaboration: Provide technical guidance and recommendations to clients and cross-functional teams, participate in project planning, and mentor junior administrators.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Location: Must be based in South Africa.
Certification: Must be an IBM AIX Certified Engineer (e.g., IBM Certified System Administrator - AIX v7) or hold a relevant, verifiable certification.

Minimum of 5-7 years of hands-on experience in IBM AIX system administration or a similar engineering/consulting role.
Proven experience with IBM Power Systems hardware and virtualization technologies (PowerVM, LPARs, VIOs, NPIV).
Experience with OS upgrades, migrations, and firmware updates.
Strong background in production support, problem analysis, and resolution in an enterprise environment.

A relevant Bachelor's Degree/Advanced Diploma (NQF 7) in IT or a related field is recommended; alternatively, a Senior Certificate (NQF 4) with extensive relevant experience and certifications will be considered.

Required Technical Skills

Deep expertise in the IBM AIX operating system internals and configuration.
Proficiency in shell scripting (KornShell, Bash, Perl).
Strong understanding of LVM, SAN storage configuration, and maintenance.
Knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, NFS).
Experience with monitoring and incident management tools (e.g., IBM Tivoli, BMC Remedy).
Familiarity with IT service management principles (ITIL, Cobit).

Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with a proactive approach to identifying potential issues.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working collaboratively in a team and engaging with clients and stakeholders effectively.
Ability to work under pressure, manage priorities, and respond to urgent issues (including on-call support).
Commitment to continuous learning and staying current with industry trends and new IBM technologies.
