MOZART aims to replace hard chromium in coatings with safe, durable Ni-matrix nanocomposite coatings. It uses nickel-based electroplating to create nano-composites with superior mechanical properties, guided by the Safe and Sustainable by Design framework. The project combines nanocoatings, AI-driven optimization, and simulation to identify optimum plating parameters for different geometries. It targets surface finishing industries across manufacturing, machinery, and automotive sectors, with an emphasis on REACH-compliant materials and reduced waste. As an EU-Horizon collaboration, it links universities, research institutes, large enterprises, and SMEs to scale and deploy these coatings broadly.
